General information
What does the word Urbis mean?
The meaning of Urbis in Latin language is "cities"
– a term that well defines the profile of an event that will approach urban
issues.
What are the objectives of the
event?
Contributing to the improvement of public policies
for cities; giving visibility to management programs of cities, and to
companies that supply equipment and services for municipalities; promoting
the exchange of governing experiences among cities; putting municipality
in the international scope; and promoting the gathering of cities and
national and international financing bodies. 
What is the target public?
All social actors linked to urban issues: mayors,
managers, entrepreneurs, specialists, technicians, researchers, and students,
besides representatives of non-governmental organizations, national and
international financing bodies, and multilateral bodie.
Where the event will take place?
In 2004, different from the other editions, the event
will take place in Pavilhão de Exposições do Expo Center Norte (Expo Center
Norte Exhibitions Pavilion), located at Rua José Bernardo Pinto, 333,
São Paulo, Brazil. 
Is any kind of transportation previewed
to get to the place of the event?
Yes, there will be a permanent service of transportation
between Tietê subway station and Expo Center Norte. There will be also
transportation between Expo Center Norte and Parque de Exposições do Anhembi,
where the Unctad XI Conference, the UN body responsible for Trade and
Development, will take place.

Who organizes Urbis?
Urbis is an event promoted by the São Paulo City
Hall, and is organized by Alcantara Machado Eventos Ltda.

Congress
How much does it cost to enroll
in the Congress?
The fee is US$ 80,00 or R$ 220,00 (that can only
be paid at the site). 
What does the enrollment allow?
The enrollment allows you to participate in the opening
solemnity, conferences, to have supporting material, simultaneous interpretation
(English/Portuguese, Spanish/Portuguese, Portuguese/English, and Portuguese/Spanish),
and to receive a certificate of attendance in the end of the event. Those
participating in the Congress have also free access to the Urbis Fair.
What is the bottom line for enrollment?
You can enroll up to the day the Congress begins,
if there is vacancy; enrollment can be done in the very place of the event.

What is the timetable for the
conferences?
There will be morning and afternoon conferences from
Tuesday (June 15) to Friday (June 18). The opening solemnity, on Monday
(June 14), starts at 3 pm. 
Where can I find the Congress
program?
The program, with the themes to be discussed each
day, is available here in the website, in the Congress
channel. The names of lecturers and debaters will be informed as they
are confirmed. 
Fair
How the fair is organized?
The fair has an area for institutions and another
one for trade. At the institutional area, the City Halls, universities,
NGOs, and organizations of the civil society will present their programs
in booths. At the trade area, companies will be organized by sectors -
transportation, treatment of hospital waste, education, sports, urban
furniture, etc. 
How much does the booth cost?
Up to May 15, the square meter costs US$ 180,00 (raw
space) or US$ 249,00 (package space). From May 16, the square meter will
cost US$ 210,00 (raw space) or US$ 279,00 (package space). 
What is the bottom line to rent
a booth?
Up to one month before the event. This is also the
term for having the exhibitor name in the catalog.
How can the participant present
their program in the booths?
The program can be freely decided by the participant.
Will visitors pay their entrance?
No. The access to the fair is free. Accreditation
will be done in the place. 
Is the City Hall of São Paulo
going to sponsor participations in the fair?
The City Hall of São Paulo doesn't subsidize any
participant. But City Halls, NGOs, or universities can look for sponsorship
in order to make their participation in the Fair and the booth assembly
feasible, as long as the sponsor doesn’t trade its products in the place.

Will participants be received
in the airport?
There will be an information center of Urbis 2004
at Guarulhos airport, to orient participants.

Where to find information on air
tickets and lodging in São Paulo?
The Bem-Vindo a São Paulo (Welcome to São Paulo)
program offers reservation in hotels with special prices, air tickets
paid in up to six installments through credit card, transfers, and other
services for visitors of fairs organized by Alcantara Machado. Those interested
can contact Almax, the travel agency that operates the program, by calling
(55-11-3035-1000) or through e-mail (almax@almax.com.br).

Will there be restaurants in the
place?
Yes, there will be a food court with restaurants
offering different kinds of food, regional and international. 
Will there be cultural events?
Yes, every day we will have cultural presentations
performed in an adequate stage.
