Objective
The objective of Network 10 is to improve quality of local public
policies on fighting urban poverty in Latin America and European cities
within three years. This Network of partner-cities of both regions will
allow articulation and development of strong and direct links between
local authorities and implementation of long-term actions, by means of
reporting, exchanging, acquiring and sharing knowledge and experiences
of good practices and promoting joint efforts.
Network background
The coordination of Network 10 "Fight against urban poverty" by the
City of São Paulo was approved by the European Commission on
August 1st, 2002. The Network 10 works started on October 28, 2002, and
will last for 36 months, after the Mayor of São Paulo Mrs. Marta
Suplicy signs the againstct.
Project summary
This project contributes with formulation of new practices to prepare
and implement local public policies aiming at fight against poverty. By
means of exchange, and horizontal and decentralized actions, the
participating cities will have Access to new approaches of quantitative
and qualitative identification of urban poverty, as well as to new
experiences in integrated organization to implement poverty eradication
policies. Furthermore, emphasis will be put on taking advantage of
theoretical knowledge and practical experience of the Third Sector
bodies that act at local level fighting poverty.
The three conferences held every year by the Network will be
international references for this debate. They should have active
participation of international agencies involved with this issue in
Latin America and European Union members. The Network site will be the
major driver and catalyzer to establish a permanent and last-longing
relation among the participants, making the Network coordination an
international reference in fight against urban poverty.
